DAYTON, OHIO -- OCTOBER
24, 2008
An election complaint has been filed against the Committee to Elect Charles
Morton by his opponent Seth Morgan's campaign.
Morton is a candidate for State Representative in the 36th
House District. The complaint also names Dawn Wojcik, the President of the
Western Ohio Education Association.
In a phone call from the Committee to Elect Charles Morton
targeting voters in the 36th House District Ms. Wojcik tells voters that
Mr. Morgan's children are home-schooled and this makes him unable to
"properly reform public education".
Mr. Morgan has three children, only one of which is
school-age. That child is proudly enrolled in the Huber Heights City School
District, although he has nothing against parents who home-school as Mr.
Morton's campaign seems to.
Ms. Wojcik also asks those targeted to "...join [her]
... in voting for Charles Morton..." although she does not live in the
36th House District and cannot vote for either candidate by law.
The complaint cites Ohio Revised Code 3517.21 (B) (10) which
prohibits Unfair Political Campaign Activities, including spreading false
statements to defeat a candidate.
At a recent Huber Heights Chamber of Commerce Event, Seth
Morgan made it clear to those present that his daughter is currently
enrolled in the Huber Heights City Schools. Mr. Morton was sitting next to
Seth Morgan at that event.
"It is sad that my opponent chooses to bring my
children into this election. They don't deserve to be attacked because I
chose to run for office. Mr. Morton refused to commit to refraining from
'negative' attacks in this campaign during an editorial board meeting and
now I know why." said Morgan.
Morgan continued, "I filed the complaint because the
voters in our District deserve the truth and if my opponent would spread
lies about this, what else would he lie about to gain votes?"
Leslie Klick, campaign manager for the Friends of Seth
Morgan said "We've seen no real proposals from Chuck Morton on
education - just more rhetoric. Now, he fabricates issues he knows to be
untrue because he and his cronies are desperate. Seth and his wife Debra
should have the right to choose the best education for their children and
they have chosen public education for now."
When asked if he would like an apology from his opponent
Morgan replied, "...I don't want an apology made to me or my
campaign...I would like an apology from Mr. Morton to my daughter. While
she's only five, because of her good training, she knows what a lie is. She
should see exemplified in our leaders a standard of honesty...she deserves
the apology, not me."
Morgan finalized his statement by saying "If Mr. Morton
wants to discuss our differing views on holding our education system accountable
- I'm game... if he wants to criticize my family and my upbringing he will
find a resolved opponent to his campaign's ruthless activities."
