Huber Heights - Seth Morgan concedes to Dave Yost for the campaign to be the Republican candidate for Auditor of State.

"We congratulate Dave and wish him well against David Pepper. The campaign will  support his campaign to be Ohio's next auditor," said Seth Morgan.

The Cuyahoga Valley Republican Club recommended Seth Morgan, CPA for Auditor of State last week. Additionally, the Bainbridge Conservative Republican Club of Geauga County endorsed Seth Morgan, CPA for Auditor of State.

Seth Morgan received the highest possible overall rating from the Cuyahoga Valley Republicans' Candidate Screening Committee, and is the first and only candidate to receive that rating.

Recommended is the highest overall rating that the Committee can provide. It means that the Committee felt that the candidate clearly meets all of the relevant criteria for serving in the particular office, that he or she has a detailed knowledge and understanding of key issues/legislation, and that the Committee felt that the candidate had demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to adherence to the guiding principles of the United States Constitution. It also means that the Committee felt that the candidate had exceptional abilities and personal skills that would make him or her highly effective in the particular office.

Auditor of state candidate Seth Morgan, CPA announced today that he raised $96,306.74 with almost 450 donors in three months.

State Rep. Seth Morgan, CPA issued a statement about the recent partisan vote by Ohio’s Controlling Board.

State Rep. Seth Morgan, CPA said:

“I’m highly disappointed about Monday’s party line vote by the Ohio Controlling Board releasing $25 million for a study that funds a boondoggle passenger rail system in Ohio. Under Ohio law, such a vote requires a supermajority 5-2 vote in order to approve the spending and they only had a majority. I’m currently working alongside colleagues in the Ohio House to hold these partisans accountable for the taxpayers’ money who have used tactics that are outside the letter and spirit of the law under House Bill 2.”

On 4-3 party-line votes, the Ohio Controlling Board gave the go-ahead to a $25 million planning study for a passenger rail system linking Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. The money comes from $400 million in federal funds awarded to Ohio to set up a passenger rail system. All four Democrats voted yes while all three Republicans voted no.

In recent weeks there have been questions of the sustainability for the passenger rail system in Ohio and Seth Morgan shares the skepticism. House Bill 2 stipulated to examine the financial and economic feasibility of developing a passenger rail system.

Auditor of State candidate Seth Morgan, CPA received the William Wilberforce Leadership Award from the Citizens for Community Values today.

For over a century, a virtual unknown among Americans, William Wilberforce today is appreciated and admired by many in the U.S., thanks to the 2007 movie, "Amazing Grace," which chronicled his 20-year battle in the British Parliament to abolish the slave trade. The Friends of Seth Morgan is responding to his opponent’s campaign perplexing communication on April 14, 2010. In the message, Morgan’s opponent campaign misrepresents Seth Morgan, CPA  AND ALL other Republicans in the Ohio legislature by claiming they are all responsible for the out-of-control spending in Columbus.

Yost’s campaign stated:

Dave's opponent is a member of the state legislature, the very place responsible for the out-of-control spending of Columbus.  With tax day upon us, let's rise up and say "no more!". Let's get to work fixing the mess in Columbus and holding government officials accountable.

“This attack on Seth Morgan, all Republican members of the Ohio House, including Treasurer Candidate Josh Mandel, as being responsible for the out-of-control spending in Columbus is nonsensical, reckless and is inaccurate,” said Rob Scott, Communications Director for Friends of Seth Morgan.

Seth Morgan, was handpicked by one of the most respected conservative leaders around Ohio, Minority Leader William Batchelder, to serve as the House Republican Caucus’ Policy Committee.  Morgan has been one of the most aggressive and outspoken members of the Ohio Legislature, leading the charge on holding Columbus accountable and implementing conservative ideals.

 On Nov. 17, 2009, Ohio House Republican Policy Committee Chairman, Seth Morgan, CPA along with his colleagues, unveiled a package of ten proposals to spur government reform, streamline efficiency, and strengthen accountability and transparency in state government, while working to reduce the economic turmoil suffered by families across Ohio.

 “Yost is clearly uneducated about Seth Morgan, House Minority Leader Bill Batchelder, Treasurer-candidate Josh Mandel, Ron Maag, John Adams, and other members who are fighting to cut spending in the state budget,” said Scott.

 Contained in the proposals are plans to reestablish the Legislative Budget Office to provide nonpartisan financial oversight; restructure  state government by streamlining the executive branch; examine Medicaid fraud, waste and abuse; require conference committee reports to be publicly available for 48 hours prior to being considered by the House or Senate; and identify other areas of wasteful, inefficient spending. The Ohio House Republican Caucus offered these proposals as bills in the Ohio House and as amendments to the Ohio budget. These ideas have been silenced or ignored by Democrats, the House Majority Party.

 The April 14th campaign communication is another example of Dave Yost and his campaign misleading Ohioans or simply using a “ready, fire, aim” approach to communicating.

First, Dave Yost and his campaign were misleading on campaign literature and websites in February when Yost was described as “the only auditor in the race.” As a Certified Public Accountant, by definition, Seth Morgan is an auditor. We applaud the Yost campaign for changing their phrasing.

 Second, Dave Yost and his campaign associated themselves with an individual who pled guilty to public corruption charges. After the Friends of Seth Morgan drew attention to the problem, Yost fired back and aggressively defended the spokesperson. The individual, who served as an advisor and spokesperson for Dave Yost and his campaign, is apparently no longer the spokesperson for the campaign. We applaud the Yost campaign for apparently removing this spokesperson.

 Third, Dave Yost sent a scathing statement via email on March 20, 2010 attacking the Summit County Republican Party Central Committee members for endorsing Seth Morgan, CPA by saying, “Summit County is widely regarded as one of the last true "machine" counties in the state, and there was no doubt that the fix was in.”  Unlike the endorsement process used when Yost garnered the endorsement by the Ohio Republican Party and four of the five County endorsements he has won, it is our understanding that both candidates were invited to participate in the endorsement process in Summit County.

Fourth, Dave Yost’s proposed Ohio budget commission would create a conflict of interest for the Ohio Auditor’s office. Morgan expressed concern over his opponent’s proposal.  Several days later, the current Auditor of State, Mary Taylor, voiced concerns over keeping the independence of the Auditor’s office if Yost’s plan was enacted in an interview airing on Sunday, April 11, 2010.

“It is our hope that Dave Yost and his campaign exercise caution before sending communications attacking Seth Morgan, fellow Republicans in the Ohio House, as well as a Republican statewide candidate, for the direction of the Ohio House, of which they do not control the agenda,” Scott said.  “It appears that Dave Yost is running an off-the-cuff, nonsensical campaign. Seth Morgan is the most qualified candidate for the Auditor of State office and is the best candidate to run against Democrat David Pepper in November.”

Seth Morgan, CPA received 66 percent of the vote in a Summit County Republican Party straw poll taken on Saturday for Auditor of State. More than 1,000 were in attendance to vote between Auditor of State candidate's Seth Morgan and Dave Yost at the Summit County GOP event.

Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor, CPA,, agreeing with Seth Morgan's position, said an Ohio Budget Commission proposal unveiled this week by Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost could create a conflict-of-interest problem for the Auditor of State's office. Seth Morgan, CPA voiced the identical concerns on Wednesday, April 7 when Yost unveiled the plan.

Auditor Mary Taylor, CPA today said on ONN's Capitol Square:

"We would be concerned that there might be an independence issue if the legislature were to approve legislation ... that required the auditor of state to participate in any budgeting process, and then after the fact would be required to go in and audit," Taylor said today during a taping of ONN's Capitol Square, which will air this Sunday at 10 a.m., noon, and 7 p.m.

Taylor said some of those concerns could be alleviated by the disclosure required by current auditing standards.

"To have the Auditor of State who is tasked with issuing an objective and independent financial audit report being involved with placing their credibility on the estimates of the revenue itself creates the appearance of a lack of independence in issuing that financial audit report. How does the Auditor of State first tell the citizens of Ohio what the revenues will be and then issue a report on the revenues themselves without being tainted by the fact that their credibility is already on the line?" said Morgan.

"This is a great example of the difference between having a CPA as Auditor of State and someone who served as auditor of county. A CPA, like the Ohio Auditor, works to ensure independence and objectivity whenever they issue audit reports. A county auditor has no responsibility to issue such reports," Morgan said.

Additionally, the Governor's role and the legislature's role are to debate and enact the state budget. Seth Morgan has expressed major concerns in the past about the reliability of having the Governor issue the revenue estimates through his Office of Budget Management (OBM).

"Instead of creating a conflict of interest for the Auditor of State as Yost's proposal would do, Yost should join Seth Morgan in publicly supporting House Bill 120," said Rob Scott, Communications Director of the Friends of Seth Morgan. House Bill 120 creates a Legislative Budget Committee and the Legislative Budget Office making a Committee of the Legislature that can be independent in its revenue estimates of that of the Governor.

The Friends of Seth Morgan campaign responded to Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost's state budget commission proposal that he unveiled today.

The Ohio Right to Life Society PAC today announced their endorsement of Seth Morgan, CPA for Auditor of State. The PAC endorsed both Seth Morgan, CPA and Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost for Auditor of State.

Seth Morgan co-sponsored House Bill 252 to require a father's consent for abortion.  Seth also co-sponsored a pro-life resolution, HCR 13, to stop the pro-abortion Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). As a Huber Heights City Councilman, Seth Morgan was a strong pro-life advocate. Seth assisted the Women's Center in finding a location in Huber Heights. 

Christi Dodson, Executive Director of Dayton Right to Life, said that then-Councilman Seth Morgan "was the first elected official who took the initiative to meet me" and "wanted to work with us and always was willing to help."

Dear Attorney General Cordray,

We are writing to you in regard to the federal healthcare debate that continues in Washington D.C. As more details emerge from the debate and closed-door discussions, we grow more concerned for the state of Ohio and the hardworking taxpayers of our state.

One concern that we have involves the provision that exempts the state of Nebraska from paying what all other states will be forced to pay for this mandated healthcare coverage. From what we understand, a deal was arranged in order for the senate leadership to garner the Nebraska senator’s vote for this healthcare proposal. How is it fair to taxpayers in other states if these back-door deals say if you vote for this legislation, your taxpayers back home in Nebraska do not have to pay their share of this healthcare mandate? This deal is an unfair way to handle the healthcare debate and Ohio’s taxpayers are being placed at a financial disadvantage.

We also have concerns with the proposal that allows Florida citizens to keep their Medicare Advantage plan at no additional cost to the state. Why should Florida’s Medicare recipients have an advantage over Ohio’s and receive better coverage?

We believe that Ohio taxpayers are being placed at a disadvantage during the discussions that are occurring at the federal level. Though the outcome of the final legislative product remains to be seen, we question the constitutionality of the deals that were reached for the states of Nebraska and Florida.

We respectfully urge you to join other Attorney Generals from across the United States to file a lawsuit on behalf of the hardworking tax payers of Ohio and challenge these “exclusive” behind-the-scene deals should they become a part of the final legislation.
We are encouraged that you have written to the Ohio Congressional delegation to express your concern with the Nebraska language that is currently being discussed. We invite you to sign onto a letter that our caucus will be sending to the Ohio delegation to convey our concerns. As Ohio’s economy and tax dollars are critical, this should be a non-partisan issue that we can unite together to show the federal government that Ohio’s hardworking citizens will not foot the expanded Medicaid program for other state’s citizens. We look forward to you joining us to convey this message.

Associated Builders and Contractors of Ohio, Inc. (ABC of Ohio) announced its unanimous endorsement of Seth Morgan, CPA for Auditor of State on Friday, March 26.

The Buckeye Firearm Association endorsed Seth Morgan, CPA for Auditor of State on Wednesday, March 24. The association endorsed both Seth Morgan, CPA and Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost for Auditor of State.

Lake County Republican Party endorsed Seth Morgan, CPA for Auditor of State on Monday, March 22.

The Lake County endorsement comes after Seth Morgan, CPA was unamiously endorsed by Summit County Republican Party and the Miami County Republican Party Convention over the weekend. The unofficial Troy Daily News results from the Convention is 256 for Seth Morgan and 112 for Dave Yost.

Dear Dave,

 It has been brought to my attention through past media reports in the Dayton Daily News, the Cincinnati Enquirer, other media outlets, and recent news blogs that you have associated on both of your campaigns, running for Ohio Attorney General and now Auditor of State, an individual that admitted to public corruption charges.

 The public insists the Auditor of State to be above reproach and demands the Auditor to have high ethical standards due to the sensitive nature of the cases the office handles. Even the hint of impropriety would be damaging to the reputation and the public trust of the Auditor's office. That is the reason why the ethical standards for professional auditors such as Seth Morgan, CPA are some of the highest found among any professional group.

 Mr. Matt Borges, your campaign spokesman and member of your campaign leadership team, admitted to public corruption charges in July 2004 when he was Chief of Staff to State Treasurer Joe Deters. Borges pleaded guilty to one count of improper use of public office. Court documents indicate he gave preferential treatment to certain brokers who made contributions to Deters' re-election campaign.

 Mr. Borges may be a very skilled professional and I don't claim to have any special knowledge of what did or didn't happen in the Treasurer's office at the time he chose to plead guilty to these charges. However, the fact that Mr. Borges did plead guilty to corruption charges and you still  have seen fit to allow him to play a very visible role in your campaign could raise serious questions in the public's mind regarding the standards you would use should you prevail and succeed in being elected Ohio's next State Auditor.

 I urge you to disassociate your campaign from Mr. Borges and to exercise greater care in the future regarding those who become part of your team.

It has been brought to my attention that you, now joined by ORP, are persisting in misunderstanding what it means to be an auditor.

Your web site had claimed that your are “the ONLY Auditor In the Race”. As I made clear to you when we both appeared before the Brown County Republican Central Committee, that claim is false and misleading.

I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), someone certified to perform financial audits, and I have done so. You are not a CPA and your qualifications would not allow you under Ohio law to perform financial audits in the private sector. You served in that elective capacity at one time but you are not currently in that office nor are you trained to be a financial auditor.

As a result of that discussion you changed your web site. I had been prepared to applaud you for having the courage to admit your mistake and to take corrective action.

However, it has now come to my attention that your new campaign literature persists in misleading the public. That literature repeats the false claim that you are the “only one who’s been an auditor….” You and your wife were seen distributing this literature as recently as this past weekend.

What’s more, the Ohio Republican Party’s web site repeats this false claim with its statement that “David Yost is the only candidate for state auditor who has actually been an auditor.”

Only someone who has never received professional training as an auditor would somehow believe that only elective office makes one an auditor.

I respectfully ask that you cease the use of such language in public and on your literature. And I respectfully ask the ORP to do the same.

I have been advised that these issues may violate portions of the Ohio Revised Code and could be brought to the Ohio Elections Commission.

It is my hope that you will voluntarily cease this activity before any such action would be required.

Auditor of State candidate Seth Morgan, CPA filed his petitions today with the Ohio Secretary of State's office containing 2,215 signatures.
 
"Seth Morgan's petitions have signatures of support from all four corners of Ohio," said Rob Scott, Friends of Seth Morgan Communications Director. "All of Seth's petitions were circulated totally by volunteers."
   
Seth Morgan, CPA was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2008 after serving seven years on the Huber Heights City Council. He is a Small Business Owner and Certified Public Accountant. For more information about Seth Morgan visit www.SethMorgan.org.

Auditor of State candidate Seth Morgan, CPA was endorsed by the Brown County Republican Party with 75 percent of the vote on Thursday, Feb. 11.

“Republican leaders in Brown County selected Seth Morgan overwhelmingly,” said Rob Scott, Friends of Seth Morgan Communications Director. “This is just another example of leaders across our state publicly recognizing that Seth Morgan is the most qualified candidate of either party for Auditor of State.”

Both Morgan and Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost were in attendance to ask for the county’s endorsement for state auditor. Yost received 13 percent of the vote.

“This endorsement further solidifies the base of support Seth is gathering across the state. Not only is he being supported by the leaders of conservative organizations statewide as well as the Tea Party movement, the Republican ‘establishment’ is joining these groups and proclaiming Seth as their candidate for Auditor no matter what the Party ‘elite’ want the rank and file to believe”, said Emery Phipps, Friends of Seth Morgan Political Director. The Brown County Republican Party waived party rules in order to endorse Seth Morgan for Auditor of State.
